our
story
Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery”): the time-honored Japanese art of repairing broken pottery using lacquer mixed with gold to highlight the beauty of imperfection.
Formerly The Duo, Kintsugi Conversations is a bi-weekly podcast hosted by mother-daughter duo, Cyndi Mathis Louis and Allison Mathis Jones, aimed at impacting generational legacy in the spirit of kintsugi.
Cyndi and Allison share an extra special relationship and are passionate about helping other mother-daughter duos to not only accept their differences, but embrace them. The pair aim to bring light to the generational legacy they are building through candid conversations about current parenting points in the spirit of kintsugi. We can all turn our messes into messages and are each more valuable when repaired with care than we were before we were broken.
MEET ALLISON
I'm Allison, one half of the co-host duo of Kintsugi Conversations. My mom and I started our podcasting journey in 2016 with the Duo Podcast, a mother-daughter podcast all about celebrating the generational differences between mothers and daughters and cultivating relationships between the two. With Kintsugi Conversations, we hope to do those things and more as we share how we turn our everyday messes into messages from a multi-generational perspective. Legacy has always been important to me and that is what Kintsugi Conversations is all about.
My mom did a phenomenal job at being both a mother and a friend to me. She made sure I knew from an early age that, while she would discipline me and provide boundaries, our lines of communication were always open. I believe that is why we have such a great relationship now and I hope to establish and maintain the same kind of relationship with my own children.
My husband, DeQuan, and I welcomed our daughter, Harper, in 2019 and our son, Jaxson, in 2022. While Georgia is home, DeQuan’s basketball career has taken us all over the world and we currently split our time between Atlanta and Japan. Momming is my main job these days, but I’m also a content creator and published author. After my experience with a brain tumor in 2018, I wrote my first children's book, The Kintsugi Kid, to teach children important lessons about strength, resilience, confidence, and, ultimately, self-love, that will shape the way they face their own trials and tribulations for years to come.
I'm a recovering perfectionist and for much of my life, I have dealt with chronic anxiety. Self-care and my faith in God have helped me to cope, which is why both are an important part of my personal journey. I have a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling and specialize in couples’ communication, premarital coaching, and helping women to own their stories in order to rewrite the narratives of their lives.
MEET CYNDI
I'm Cyndi, a 60ish (a lady never tells her age) Georgia-native who is passionate about using my voice to tell the stories of the hundreds of men, women, and children who would otherwise not be heard. Besides being a published author, I’m also a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a friend, and someone who was lucky enough to find love and remarry after the devastating loss of my first husband.
I wrote and self-published my first novel, Missing Pieces, in 2010 and decided to share it with the world as I continue to work on the sequel as well as other stories that I find pertinent in today’s society.
I grew in Milledgeville, Georgia and, with a turbulent relationship with my mother and a non-existent relationship with my father, I moved out at the age of 19 and never looked back. When I had my own daughter some years later, I knew that I wanted our relationship to be different. I made it my personal goal to be not only her mother, but also her best friend, and I am excited to say that I succeeded. What we share is unique and we co-hosted The Duo, a weekly podcast, in hopes to celebrate the generational differences between mothers and daughters and motivate others to cultivate this extra special bond.
I pride myself at being extremely organized and transparent as a mother, a writer, and a woman, in general, and I am excited to use these skills to help others. I believe that sharing my own personal struggles may strike a cord in someone else and lead them towards their own path to success. Whether it’s through sharing my words and creativity in my books, speaking to groups about my upbringing and perseverance, or helping mothers to create and maintain exceptional relationships with their offspring, I aim to instigate conversation and positive change.
Dreams are only possibilities that have not yet been brought to fruition. In my 60 plus years on this earth, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to dream big and with no boundaries. If I can help you to dream bigger through my voice, I’ll know that I have lived a life worth living.
